1. Discipline Overview
The Civil Engineering discipline was established in 1993. Currently, there are four undergraduate majors in Civil Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, and Engineering Management, which have cultivated more than 2,000 undergraduate students. Since 2005, relying on the first-level master's degree program in Environmental Science and Engineering, the discipline has enrolled master's students in Civil Engineering and Municipal Engineering. In 2014-2015, relying on the first-level master's degree program in Environmental Science and Engineering, the discipline established the second-level master's degree program in Civil Environmental Engineering. Since 2014, it has also jointly trained Master of Structural Engineering with Leipzig University of Applied Sciences in Germany. In 2018, the discipline was authorized to grant a master's degree in Civil Engineering and began enrolling students in 2019.
The Civil Engineering discipline currently has 53 full-time teachers, including 7 professors and 20 associate professors, with a proportion of associate senior titles exceeding 51%. There are 35 teachers with doctoral degrees, accounting for 66%, including 6 postdoctoral researchers. There are 25 master's supervisors, including 1 young academic leader of the Qinglan Project in Jiangsu Province, 1 high-level talent of the Six Talent Peaks in Jiangsu Province, 2 Double-creation talents in Jiangsu Province, and 13 teachers with overseas visiting or research backgrounds in well-known universities or research institutions.
The Civil Engineering discipline has 2 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 2 provincial and ministerial research centers, 1 provincial practical teaching demonstration center, and co-built the Changzhou Key Laboratory of Building Energy-saving Technology with enterprises. It has more than 20 internship bases both inside and outside the university, more than 20 research and development centers (research institutes, laboratories) co-built with the government, scientific research institutions, and enterprises, and 8 Jiangsu provincial graduate workstations. In the past five years, the discipline has undertaken 13 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, 2 sub-projects of the Thirteenth Five-Year National Major Science and Technology Project on Water Pollution Control and Treatment, and 24 provincial and municipal longitudinal scientific research projects such as Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Plan Project and Changzhou City Science and Technology Plan Project, with a total research funding of 38.68 million yuan, including 10.61 million yuan in longitudinal funding. It has won 3 provincial and ministerial awards, published more than 360 papers, including more than 100 papers indexed by SCI and EI, and has 96 authorized invention patents, as well as more than 10 textbooks and monographs. The laboratory is equipped with large-scale instruments and platforms such as a 50-ton loading device, electro-hydraulic servo universal testing machine, microcomputer carbonation test box for concrete, standard curing box for cement constant temperature and humidity, concrete rheometer, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscope, liquid chromatograph, gas chromatograph, ion chromatograph, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, atomic fluorescence spectrophotometer, total organic carbon/total nitrogen analyzer, total organic halogen analyzer, accelerated solvent extraction instrument, artificial environmental chamber, building indoor environment and energy control system, thermal comfort and air flow organization measurement system, Daikin multi-connected central air conditioning system, and central air conditioning microcomputer control experimental platform, which meet the requirements for graduate student training and various research work in the field of this major.
2. Objectives
This academic degree aims to meet the needs of economic construction and social development, adhering to the comprehensive development policy of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. It aims to cultivate students with solid basic theory and professional knowledge, and a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the development status of cutting-edge science and technology in civil engineering. The program aims to develop high-level and compound talents who have the ability to independently engage in scientific research, technology management, and engineering applications.
(1) Moral Qualities
Students are expected to love their country and have a firm and correct political direction, mastering Marxist, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of Three Represents, the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. They should have good behavior, physical and mental health, a sense of social responsibility, collectivism, academic ethics, academic integrity, rigorous scientific research style, perseverance in research, good professional literacy, professional ethics, a strong sense of career, dedication to the socialist modernization construction, and actively serve the society.
(2 ) Scientific Research Ability
Students are expected to master the solid basic theory and systematic cutting-edge knowledge in this discipline, be proficient in one foreign language (English), be familiar with the history, status quo, and development trends of domestic and foreign research in this discipline. They should have the ability to flexibly and comprehensively apply various knowledge according to engineering practice, solve engineering problems in this discipline through comprehensive analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and be able to carry out in-depth engineering practice and extract scientific and technological problems in engineering practice. They should have the ability to independently engage in scientific research, teaching, and technical work in this field, and have creative thinking in engineering technology development, be courageous in conducting innovative experiments, innovative development, and innovative research.
(3) Organizational Coordination Ability
Students are expected to have certain communication, organization coordination, and engineering management capabilities, be able to play an active role in teams and multi-disciplinary work groups, be able to organize the implementation of scientific and technological project development, and solve various problems encountered in the implementation process.
3. Study Duration
The study period for professional master's degree students is 3 years. If necessary, students can apply for an extension of the study time, but the total study period cannot exceed 5 years. Those who exceed the time limit will be automatically dismissed.
