On November 8, 2022, Mr. Lei Xiao, General Manager of Changzhou General Water Supply Co., Ltd., and Ms. Zhen Lv, Technical Director and Senior Engineer of Changzhou Drainage Management Bureau, were invited by our college to present special reports on water supply and drainage science and engineering to our faculty and students. Vice Dean Xia Xu presided over the meeting, with several teachers, undergraduate, and graduate students in attendance.

Mr. Lei Xiao's presentation, titled Demonstration of Technology and Application for Ensuring the Safety of Drinking Water Sources in the Taihu Watershed in Changzhou, introduced the technology and application demonstration for ensuring the safety of drinking water sources in the Taihu watershed in Changzhou, using the 13th Five-Year Plan water special project of the Ministry of Science and Technology as an example. In response to the current situation and demand for safe drinking water in the Changzhou area of the Taihu watershed, a technological system was established through technical innovation and system integration, enabling the quick start-up of standby water sources and multiple water source monitoring, early warning, and emergency handling. This ensured that the tap water supplied to the 1 million population of Changzhou met the water quality standards. The project has guaranteed drinking water safety in the Changzhou area and provided scientific support and a model for water source drinking water safety guarantee and promotion in the Yangtze River Delta region. Mr. Lei Xiao also shared insights and experiences from his 20-year career, inspiring faculty and students with the sixteen characteristics of self-confidence, self-improvement, adherence to the right path, innovation, hard work, and courage to move forward.

Ms. Lv Zhen's presentation, titled Design and Operation Control Ideas of Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants under the High Standards of Dual Carbon, began with the design ideas and cases of several field-researched sewage treatment plants. She introduced the operation and control ideas of sewage treatment plants under the dual-carbon background in simple terms to faculty and students. For newly built sewage treatment plants, a reasonable plan must be developed, and the process design should be carried out stably in accordance with the dual-carbon targets. This requires consideration of resource and energy recovery and utilization, such as recycled water, water source heat pump technology, photovoltaic technology, anaerobic digestion technology for sludge, and new pollutant removal technology. For existing sewage treatment plants, energy-saving and consumption reduction measures should be continuously implemented to reduce energy consumption, such as improving aeration, stirring, and other links, while consistently reducing drug consumption, such as phosphorus removal, carbon sources, disinfection, dehydration, and other drug consumption.

During the interactive session, Mr. Lei Xiao and Ms. Zhen Lv provided detailed answers to questions raised by students on-site, combining their own experiences and engaging in discussions with students and teachers on issues such as water supply and drainage professional education, student career development and growth, and the development direction of drainage technology. The atmosphere was lively and interactive.

Professor Zhang Feng'e, on behalf of the faculty and students of the college, expressed gratitude to the two experts for their presence and encouraged the attendees to actively reflect on what they learned from the lectures, immerse themselves in research, and continuously improve their scientific research level and ability. The college has recently established a collaborative education mechanism with enterprises such as Changzhou Tap Water Co., Ltd., and Changzhou Urban Water Supply and Drainage Co., Ltd., jointly developing training standards and curriculum systems.
